We recently released this baby and soon I shall put up a track by track post of the song, lyrics, stories, inspiration and concepts but I just wanted to say a big THANK YOU to everyone who made the EP possible!

We released the EP in Auckland at Church Unlimited, had a great night and are looking forward to seeing what God does through these songs in our lives, in our friends/families/fans lives, in our city, in our nation and in this world, this album was birthed from many nights spent in what we call “prayer jams” where we set up our gear and play and listen and share and wait and fall on our faces and shout and sing and most importantly hear from God.

The EP includes songs we wrote in NZ and America, which is a first for us, it is also our first ever band release, our first ever self produced release (Caleb our drummer produced the whole thing with me putting in my two cents) and our first ever Praise and Worship release. We are so excited about the songs, they are a little different to your average P&W collection but we hope that you get something new out of them!

We’re also working right now on a new album, stay tuned for that, we’ll post some demo’s for feedback etc soon and stay tuned for the track by track breakdown of the EP!

Title: Moshpit

Moshpit

People say I’m crazy to believe what I can’t see| I tell them its ok, ok and of all you’ve done for me| I can meet you in a secret place| I can meet you in outer space| I tell them I am gonna seek your face| Anytime, anywhere| Anytime, anywhere| I could even meet you here||I can meet you in the moshpit (Turn it up)| I can meet you in the moshpit (Burn it up)| I can meet you in the moshpit (Lay it down)| I can meet you in the moshpit right now| I’m jumping round like crazy and you’re breaking down my walls| We’re going round and round and round|| Might see a miracle|| I couldn’t find the lyrics for this silly second verse| I just wrote down anything so my band could rehearse| I could meet, I could meet, I could meet ya while I’m digging in my purse| Anytime, anywhere| Any day of any year| I could even meet you here||

Took my mates to a Christian music festival one year and one of them met God in the moshpit.  Inspiration for this song.  Wanted it to be fun and simple and crazy, it was one of the first songs we (Chris White - producer and I ) worked on for the album, way back when I was 17 heh heh.  Went through a number of transitions until Chris came up with the main musical hook for the chorus and his mate Matt Chapman came up with the gat lick for the intro/verse.  One of my favourites to do live cause we just go nuts

Enjoy

Title: Do we listen?

Do we listen

|Why is there so much suffering?| Why is there so much pain?| Why can’t we help each other?| Why can’t we start again?| Why do we live with anger?| Why do we discriminate?| Don’t tell me it’s too late|| Why?| That’s the cry| But do we listen for the answer?||Why is there terrorism| Oh why is there war?| We see the children crying| We hear the armies roar| We stab the backs of brothers| We kill our little ones| What will be left for those to come?|| Why?| That’s the cry| But do we listen for the answer?|| Why all these broken people, no families, no homes?| Dying from diseases in cities where they’re unkown| Why all these failing countries and people living in the slums| And we won’t help| We’re so cold we must be numb|| We see the bullets flying, we turn and walk away| Inside our souls are dying|| Why?| That’s the cry| But do we listen for the answer?|| There is a time for crying| To mourn for what we’ve done|  To get down on our knees, humbly admit we’re wrong| Maybe we’ll hear the answer||

There are a lot of big questions out there, I think its important to ask and investigate and not just accept however I find it frustrating when we see a world with issues and don’t recognise the opportunity that we have to make a difference.  So I wanted to write a song that made people think “What can I do?”

Title: Be Still

Be Still

When I am alone there is something I feel| It echo’s in the darkness, it’s a voice in the wind|| It speaks be still, be still|| I drop to my knees, I cover my face| I hear a gentle whisper when my thoughts are carried away|| It speaks be still, be still||

Even on my best days I am a bit insane, the day I wrote this one I was bordering on destructive, my heart and emotions and thoughts were going crazy.  I sat down at the piano and just played the piano line for this song on the spot, it was so soothing.  I relaxed, let myself be still and began to listen.

Title: Come Home

Come Home

I can’t help you anymore, you keep dragging me down| I won’t blame you for all the things I’ve done| Time for me to get away, to get away and find my own space without you| And I can’t have you near, cause I know you might hurt me and I don’t want to hurt you so this is goodbye for a while| I need it this way ‘cause I can’t trust you anymore|| I would give you the world if I thought it might help you| Now I realise you knew this all along| You’re crying, you’re crying out in pain| Don’t you realise you’re hurting yourself? | You want freedom and you know how to get it too| You won’t let your lies be broken by the one who can heal you|| Simple message that you once learnt now forgotten in a discarded pile of memories| How is it so easy for us to lose the most important things?|| I would give you the world if I thought it might help you| Now I realise you knew this all along| You’re crying, you’re crying out in pain| Don’t you realise you’re hurting yourself? | You want freedom and you know how to get it too| You won’t let your lies be broken by the one who can heal you|| You’re running and running as fast as you can| Denying the truth by your actions and plans| Into denial, you’re blinded by lies| No matter what you think you cannot hide| Spinning and spinning in a world of your own| Desperately trying to find your way home| You’re lashing out fighting but you do not know you’re hurting the ones who love you the most|| I would give you the world if I thought it might help you| Now I realise you knew this all along| You’re crying, you’re crying out in pain| Don’t you realise you’re hurting yourself? | You want freedom and you know how to get it too| You won’t let your lies be broken by the one who can heal you|| Come Home||

Story

Had a friend who had issues, she knew what to do to fix them but somehow she always seemed to slip back into her pain.  This song is my outside in look at a sad situation, my sideline passion written in bold.  It’s my inner cheerleader coupled with my failure to challenge. Sometimes the most loving thing to do is hurt someone a little, not in a cruel way but to let them know what is wrong. The bible says “The wounds of a friend are sweeter than the kisses of an enemy”

This song is my hope that she would one day come home.

Enjoy

My heart is filled with songs of forever| A city that endures where all is made new| And no I don’t belong here, I’ll never| Call this place my home I’m just passing through|

Title: Walk into a room

Walk into a Room

Walk into a room you can feel the hate| Walk into a room and you suffocate on bad feeling and intention against you|  Walking down the street see the cruelty| Walking down the street inferiority in their mind shines through their eyes|| There has to be more and that is the hope you’re fighting for| It cannot be true it’s gotta be lies they’re feeding you| What can you do?| Is there anyone who’ll come and rescue you?||Walk into a room feel the tension| Walk into a room, the agression as they lean in close to talk about you||There has to be more and that is the hope you’re fighting for| It cannot be true it’s gotta be lies they’re feeding you| What can you do?| Is there anyone who’ll come and rescue you?||If only you could change the world| If only you could stop the hurt| cause deep inside resistance dies so effortlessly||Walk into a room you can feel the hate| Walk into a room and you suffocate on bad feeling and intention against you| Walk into a room, find another door| Walk into a room you’ve been searching for||

Story

This song is about gossip, gossip that comes from all around, enemies and friends united in one cause to bring someone down. The idea came when thinking about one particular girl at my school who was the victem of some rather brutal attacks against her character on the rumour mill.  She certainly hadn’t helped herself, she was a bit of a liar and had caused a bit of fuss and drama but these were things done because she needed help and support and what we did, her friends and her peers was to bring her down.  I thought, in hindsight about the situation from her point of view. Imagine the pain of being stuck in an environment of hostility and the confussion of emotions because at least now people are noticing you! Highschool drama’s are normally ridiculous and often looked back upon with amusement but also can be all consuming and even life damaging.  I faced my part in the gossip when writing this song, I determined I would never again be a part of something that so hurt someone’s reputation, I would never again judge someone so harshly and I would never again sit back and watch while someone I had once called friend was hurting so badly.  Some people say that all we need is one really good friend who will love us through everything, it can make all the difference, it can be the difference between life and death, let’s be that friend!
